Arrived at the destination, Miyama's Thatched Village! You can walk around the village and enjoy the atmosphere and the breathtaking views of the thatched roofs with a mountain backdrop. There are cafes, folklore museum, indigo museum, and several small shrines within the village.

  39 thatched houses

  In the village, 39 houses have thatched roofs. All are residential houses. Designated as the traditional buildings preservation district in 1993.

  Nostalgic scenery of a retro red pillar post box at the entrance of the village. It's still working as a post box.

  Chii Hachiman Shrine

  Main hall of the shrine was built almost 200 yrs ago. Wood carvings on surface of the main hall are gorgeous!

  Kamakura Shrine

  The huge tree is a horse chestnuts tree of 400 yrs old, designated as Kyoto prefectural cultural property.

The master of indigo dyer Hiroyuki Shindo's museum. 1st floor is the studio. On the 2nd floor, a beautiful collection of vintage indigo textiles from Japan and all over the world are displayed. Open: 11:00am~5:00pm Closed: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, New year's holiday Fee: JPY300

  Stunning collection of indigo dyed textiles around the world as well as old Japan (from Edo to Showa periods) are displayed which are all from the owner, Mr. Shindo's 300 collections.

You can taste handmade sweets at a relaxing cafe with a thatched roof "Cafe Gallery Saika". The popular "three-colored dango'' is made of millet, non-glutinous rice, and mugwort, and goes perfectly with the black bean tea! Open: 10:00am~5:00pm(L.O.4:30pm) Closed: Tuesday, New year's holiday

  In addition to the dango set, you can also enjoy a variety of sweets such as daifuku sets, zenzai, cheesecake, and pudding.
