Kyoto Aquarium, located in Umekoji Park near Kyoto Station, is an inland aquarium that opened in 2012. It houses approximately 15,000 creatures from 250 species, including the Japanese giant salamander, a national special natural treasure, as well as Cape penguins, seals, and various marine life.
