Have a Stroll Through Picturesque Otaru
北海道Have a Stroll Through Picturesque Otaru
This was the last day of my trip to Hokkaido. My flight was leaving at 3:30pm so I couldn't go anywhere too far, but I didn't want to waste time by going to the airport early. All my research said that you can effectively visit lots of places with a bus tour. I decided on going to Otaru since I hadn't been there before. I only had a little time there but I had plenty of fun!
A photo taken from the famous Asakusa Bridge street garden, a popular photography spot. The Otaru canal was built in 1923 as a 1300m long, 40m wide waterway. You can stroll along the canal.
The Otaru Snow Light Path Festival
A hallmark winter event held in February. From dusk the lights begin to turn on, and until 9pm the town is covered in candlelight.
This store uses a stone storehouse as its building. The first floor is a gift shop, and the second floor is a cafe space.
This is biggest music box speciality shop in the country. The woodframe building built in 1912 is on the corner of the Marchen Intersection. There are two buildings to visit; the Main Building and Hall Number 2.
Find the perfect music box for yourself
See a variety of unique music boxes collected from around the world.
The area around this intersection, where sites like the Otaru Music Box Museum and pastry shop LeTAO, souvenir shops and restaurants are to be found, always crowded with tourists.
Street Lights
When it gets dark, automatic sensors turn on the lights and the streets are illuminated. The lights rest on a circle so you can sit on them, making them a recommended resting spot.
Otaru Sakaimachi Post Office
A cute post office that fits in with the townscape. There's a nostalgic, round post box in the front.
Otaru Music Box Museum (Hall Number 2)
Here you will find music boxes for sale, and can see antique music boxes and pipe organs on display.
